Dear friends,


A belated happy new year from all of us at ROI! We spent December and January setting goals for 2024, and our team is feeling energized by our planning process. We look forward to engaging communities across North Carolina and the U.S. this year in systems change work.


Our policy work, led by Graham Palmer, got off to a strong start for the year with our first Community Accountability Board meeting in late January. Read more about about the CAB's policy initiatives for 2024 below.


Lastly, we're excited to see many of you at Area L AHEC's "ACEs, Trauma, and Burnout: From Surviving to Thriving" conference in Rocky Mount on March 5 and 6. If you're not already registered, sign up information is below.

Community Accountability Board Kicks Off 2024

ROI's Community Accountability Board (CAB) is a group of local leaders and residents who have direct experience with trauma and resilience work. The CAB met on January 22 and identified healthcare, education and economics as priority areas for the year. Members will be planning events and creating "small bets" innovations in these areas. Stay tuned for more details—we're excited for the CAB's expanded leadership role at ROI!

Area L AHEC is hosting an exciting conference for healthcare professionals and community leaders March 5-6 at Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount, N.C. During the conference, attendees will learn about adverse childhood experiences and how to build resilience. We'll see you there!

Strengthening Systems for North Carolina Children (SYNC) Training: Applications are open for the SYNC program, which is designed for community coalitions in North Carolina that are interested in using systems thinking for ACES prevention. SYNC is a partnership between ROI, the NC DHHS Division of Public Health, and the UNC Injury Prevention Center. Learn more and apply by Feburary 28.
